Residents’ Forum

Who can be on the Forum and how is it run?

There can be up to 21 Forum members at any one time.

You need to be 18 and a Newlon resident – who is renting; shared owner; 100% leaseholder of Newlon or an adult who lives in a Newlon household – to be a Forum member. The Chair is a resident who is also a Board member.

The Forum is part of Newlon’s governance structure, along with the Residents’ Services Committee and Board, and has a Code of Conduct, Constitution and role description. You can find these documents below.

Members must keep to the rules of their tenancy or lease with Newlon. Residents with legal proceedings being taken against them by Newlon will not be accepted as new Forum members.

People who want to be on Forum need to send in a request to getinvolved@newlon.org.uk. They will then be asked to write a personal statement and attend an interview.

What does the Forum do?

The Forum meet four times a year, and have one additional joint meeting with the Board. The Forum sets its own agenda, based on items that are required by legislative and regulatory standards including key performance KPIs, and areas of interest and scrutiny.

The Forum is the primary resident consultative group at Newlon. Its main aims are to influence and be involved in general housing decisions taken by Newlon. It may also monitor Newlon’s performance, including recommending performance issues or topics to appropriate scrutiny channels.

It provides a voice for residents at the most senior level within Newlon.

To help drive continuous improvement in service at Newlon, the Forum will:

  • Represent the views of residents on housing issues.
  • Work in partnership, in a collaborative manner, with residents, Newlon staff, the Residents’ Services Committee and Board.
  • Constructively challenge Newlon where appropriate.
  • Be a representative group of all Newlon’s residents.
  • Champion and support resident involvement elsewhere in Newlon, according to residents’ needs and wishes.

How can I find out what has been happening on the Forum?
