General Election: Registration deadline approaching

16th Apr 2015

The 2015 General Election is held on Thursday, 7th May 2015. To be able to vote you must be registered to do so.

Last year the registration rules changed. These changes mean that one member of a household can no longer register everyone who lives there. Instead each person must now register individually.

The new rules also impact on students, as universities can no longer block-register students, so they need to register themselves.

Although most people who were registered to vote under the previous system will have been automatically registered under the new system, some people have not been.

If you want to double check you are still registered – or you have moved in the last year – then contact your electoral registration office.

If you haven’t registered then go to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

The process only takes about 5 minutes. You just need your National Insurance number.

The registration deadline is 20th April but you should ideally do it as soon as possible.
