Newlon celebrates 50th birthday

13th Feb 2018

Newlon was originally founded by members of the New London Synagogue who were appalled by the terrible housing conditions facing local people, which were prevalent in north and east London in the late 1960s.

They started out by purchasing two houses in Amhurst Road and Evering Road in Hackney for £10,500 in total, which were renovated and converted into flats and let at affordable rents. We still own these two houses today.

We were formally registered as an Industrial and Provident Society on 13th February 1968.

We have now grown to provide 8,000 homes across north and east London and have a proud record of providing award-winning developments and services and supporting the fight against homelessness.

Highlights of the past 50 years include working with our specialist care and support arm Outward and major regeneration projects in Arsenal and Tottenham, which have transformed previously deprived areas into thriving new communities.

We are proud to have supported so many people in the communities where we work and to be one of London’s main developers of new affordable housing.

We will be holding a range of events and activities throughout the year for residents and the many partners we work with to mark our anniversary, so watch this space for updates and we hope to have the opportunity to celebrate with you.
