Staff Energy Month

chloe demonstrates the power down devices"Hi. My name is Chloe and I am the Strategic Communications Officer for Newlon. I have been helping Ketra of Newlon Fusion (our community regeneration team) to highlight our 'greener Newlon' projects to help you save money, save energy and save the world.

In the last few weeks I have been focussing on changing my energy habits in a bid to save money on my bills at home. Like the Eco family, I was given some power down devices and an energy monitor to get me started and I am looking forward to seeing how this has reduced my electiricty bills. My energy monitor is really great as I can see what items are using the most energy and try and use them less if possible. The power down devices are also very useful. It means I can turn off hard to reach plugs at the touch of a button, wherever I am in the house - you can see in the picture that I can turn off my plugs downstairs with the remote control upstairs! This makes sure that things like the Internet and TV are off rather than on standby.

Global Action Plan also gave me some cooking tips, which are really easy to follow. For example, I try and keep the oven door closed to stop heat escaping, I turn off the oven a little earlier than recipes say as the oven is still hot for cooking and I try and take the baking trays out of the oven if I am not using them, but this is sometimes difficult as I have a small kitchen!

I am really excited about being energy efficient for a month and I hope it continues so that I can save money on my bills and do my bit for the environment. I am also looking forward to following the Eco Family as they tackle their other challenges so that I too can follow their example in my home."
