I qualified and worked in mental health services as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse for a number of years in different roles and settings prior to joining Social Services in 1981. I then worked in residential care with adults with special needs, including mental health, drug and alcohol problems, dementia and adults with learning difficulties.
I next managed a series of residential care homes and sheltered living schemes with Social Services before moving on to social housing in 1991 to set up mental health services in south London.
I worked with housing teams and commissioners to develop various models of care and supported housing services in the community, for various client groups including young BME adults with severe mental illness. I also developed core and cluster models of independent accommodation for move-on and support services for integrated living in south London and the South East.
I have a Master’s Degree in Care Management and have worked at senior management level in social housing for the past eleven years. I joined Outward as the Service Manager for mental health and learning diabilities in June 2005.
