| Title | Work at Tottenham Town Hall moves forward |
| Date | 11 Dec 2009 |
Our work to transform Tottenham Town Hall and provide new affordable homes, business units and community facilities has taken a step closer as we received the keys from Haringey Council.
The 103 year old Grade II listed building has been handed over to us paving the way for work to refurbish the Town Hall and develop the Clyde Road depot site, behind the Town Hall, which will include 109 new affordable homes.
The first phase of the works, due to start in early 2010, will see the Town Hall restored to protect the heritage of the building, while improving business and community space. The refurbishment will take around 11 months and will be followed by work at the Clyde Road depot site, where four blocks of flats and house will be built.
Haringey Council Leader, Cllr Claire Kober said: "This development is a key part of the major regeneration of south Tottenham and I'm delighted that the work will soon begin. The Town Hall is a Tottenham landmark and the refurbishment will see an iconic building revitalised for the 21st century.
This part of the High Road has already benefited from Conel and the development of the Bernie Grant Arts Centre and I'm confident that the refurbishment of the Town Hall and the building of these new affordable homes will be an even greater boost."
Vice Chair of our Board, Rachel Beagles, who received the keys from Cllr Kober said: "We are really proud to be working on such an historical site, to retain the hall and to regenerate an area that will provide affordable homes and facilities to the people of Haringey."
