However, Newlon Fusion supports credit unions that offer loans at between 12% and 20% and seek to extend access to debt advice for Newlon residents.
South Barnsbury Neighbourhood Arrangements
This programme is funded with £60,000 from Islington Strategic Partnership. Newlon is the lead agency to facilitate the improvement of mainstream services in South Barnsbury Area, including Barnsbury Estate – working with local residents to highlight gaps and problems in service delivery. The Youth Forum aims to facilitate services that would otherwise be unavailable to the wider community, focusing specifically on support and activities for young people of all ages.
So far there has been a huge uptake from local residents and as a result, a further evening has been set up. It is open to all the children from the estate and is open every Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm. It is run and organised by qualified youth workers and is free to attend.
- Activities includes;
- Music workshops, film and video workshops, dance workshops.
- Trips to the cinema, bowling, ice-skating etc.
- Visiting similar local youth groups, youth parliament nights, awareness building events etc.
